High-Efficiency Ratings
A furnace’s efficiency rating, or Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency (AFUE), tells you how efficiently the furnace uses fuel (gas or oil). The higher the efficiency %, the less fuel the furnace will use to heat your home. Heat pumps have heating efficiency ratings indicated as a Heating Seasonal Performance Factor (HSPF). In general, the higher the HSPF rating, the less electricity the unit will use to heat your home.
Cost Savings
Typically, the higher the efficiency of your heating system, the higher the initial investment will be of the system you select. However, you will gradually see the initial cost of your energy-efficient system dwindling as the return on your investment of your high efficient system is within two to four years.
